FYI....

3 DAYS UNTIL PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLDS END COMES OUT!!

Anyone out there as excited about this as me??? If you listen to the podcast, I'm sure this week you've heard about how excited Nathan, Tim and I are about this. Anyone doing anything special for this event?? I never thought I would do this, but I'm actually going to a local premiere of this show. Not that I'm not a totally devoted fan, but usually I like to wait a few weeks until the movies theaters are less crowded. I'll be including some pics of the event later this week.

Just a quick FYI (for those of you, if any, who read this thing, lol) ... I know this blog is a mouthful, but I'm currently working on a better one, so bear with me as I make some enhancements within the blogging world. I may even have a new web address soon, so stay tuned for a bigger and better Jackie O. blog! A big thank you goes out to the few of you who do check out this site, I promise the new one will be worth while. See ya real soon!

Brief Trip Ramblings & a shocking story...

I just want to apologize for not having my past 2 trip reports posted. However I can tell you the trip I went on with my best friends from NY, was a blast! They said they couldn't have had a better time and that I was a great "tour guide." Despite arriving at the transportation and ticket center to a line for the monorail, the day went very smoothly and we didn't wait longer than 15 minutes for any one attraction. I got them on all the big attractions (Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean twice, and more, including the new Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor!) We had a great time. One of my friends even started crying as we entered the Magic Kingdom. I was so touched by this and was so happy to share the magic with them (I went with 3 of my friends who hadn't been to WDW since they were about 5). The trip was terrific. As far as my other trip goes, you can get details by heading over to The Magical Definition Podcast and checking out the 4/22/07 episode for a brief rundown of the trip. Later in May, my interview with Disney Design Team Artists Brian Blackmore and Alex Maher will be featured in the podcast, so be on the look out for that upcoming episode!

Ok, so let's get to the purpose of this blog. Has anyone seen this yet? Seems as though a WDW security manager was caught molesting a young girl behind a bush. I couldn't believe my ears when I first heard this on a local radio station. My question is this, does it seem to be that the world is just becoming more and more sick and vulgar as a whole, or do you think the media picks and chooses what to expose more than others? It seems to me in the past couple years we've had some rather big news come out of Disney parks, why not other parks? I know for a fact this stuff isn't only happening at WDW. I'm just glad the guy is paying for the consequences. How does hearing about this stuff effect you as a Disney fan? What do you think can be done from preventing this from happening? I'm honestly interested in what other people may think, so please don't be shy.

That's all I got for now, I'd love to chit chat if discussion picks up! Be sure to check out the 5/6/07 episode of The Magical Definition Podcast to hear me host an episode with my two favorite Disney fanatics, Nathan Rose and Tim Devine. Thank you guys so very much for having me, I'm honored to be on the podcast, truly! Keep reading to see some pictures from my trip to The Magic Kingdom with my friends and some fun and interesting links! See ya real soon! Ciao!

03.24.07 MGM & Magic Kingdom

Sorry this trip report is so late! Things have been very hectic, so let's not waste time! Here goes!

My mom, her boyfriend and I started our trek to The World at about 8am with one pitstop to pick up my friend, Kyle. We made one more pitstop half way there at the Lakeland rest stop and boy was it packed. Which kind of freaked us out because we haven't seen it like that in quite some time. Regardless, we did our duties (-insert snicker here-) and were on our way. We got to MGM a little after 10am to a somewhat hellish parking lot, but no worries, we were ready to man the crowds. As we stepped into the park we graciously volunteered to do a WDW survey. From a distance, I could see a giant "High School Musical" sign. I began to fear the new stage show took center stage right in front of the Sorceror's hat, but as I got closer I saw the stage was moving down the street, pretty cool! High School Musical was alright, but the music is seriously brain infecting! I was singing "We're all in this together" pretty much all morning long, lol.

So our excursion started with a walk over to Rock n' Rollercoaster. The stand by time was a good 50 minutes and the fast pass distribution was for 5 to 6pm (Mind you it was 10.30am at this point, I suppose it was to be expected). So we passed it up for a while and headed over to The Great Movie Ride. Now, I hate to rant so much already, but we had the worst Gangster take over our car on this particular trip. He was lackluster and non-enthusiastic, the worst kind! When he got to the Indiana Jones jewel scene, he slapped the activation button very obviously and put his hand on the jewel for a second before we all saw him just kind of, let go of it... I love that ride, it just stinks when you get cast members who aren't as into it as you'd hope.

We then stopped for a snack at Starring Rolls Bakery. I'd never been there before and I must say, they have VERY good croissants! If you haven't stopped in there before, I reccommend it. Our next stop was One Man's Dream (which I think should be required for ALL patrons of WDW). Absolutely love this attraction, visiting WDW always feels so much more special after seeing this.

Next was the Backlot Tour, always something new to see and always fun! This time, they had the skull and bones chambers from Pirates 2. Very cool to see. (And to think, Johnny Depp has his hands on them! lol) We took some pictures on the Streets of America and then headed to Lights, Motors Action! I was the only one of the group who had seen it before. Everyone really enjoyed it. We quickly headed over to Muppet Vision 3D before our dinner reservation at Mama Melrose. I'd been there once before a few years ago and it was just as good as I'd remembered. (BTW... If anyone ever needs any dining advice, please don't hesitate to ask! I have been to quite a few restaurants on property and can give you reccomendations if you'd like!) After dinner we walked around a bit when I noticed this:

This last one isn't that great, but these are photos of Echo Lake. I'm not sure why it was emptied, but the photos are pretty cool. If you notice, the piping is covered with fiberglass shaped to look like trees. I found that to be quite interesting, gotta love the detail. I love the picture where you can see the back side of Gertie. Just thought you'd like to see those. After stopping off at Sid Cahuenga's, we headed over the the Magic Kingdom for the rest of the evening.

We started the night off right, with a pitstop in the Main Street Bakery for brownies and cookies. Then we headed over to Pirates of the Caribbean. The look on my moms face when she saw Johnny Depp's animatronic was priceless. Classic ride. Next was the Haunted Mansion, this is one of those rides I have to go on no matter how many times I go to Disney World, lol. And finally, It's a Small World. We took the evening at a slower pace and ended the night with Wishes and Spectromagic. A very fun day. During Spectromagic, Snow White came up to me and said that I looked lovely. It was by far one of the best compliments I've ever gotten, I mean, look who it was coming from!

So I guess it was just another enjoyable day at WDW! I'm so glad it hasn't rained in a while. Gosh, I hope I don't jinx myself! Please feel free to leave me your feedback, what you like, what you don't like, what you'd like some info or pictures of and I'll do my best to get it for you!

Please remember to check out two of my favorite guys, Nathan Rose and Tim Devine at their websites Magicalmountain.net and TheMagicInPixels.com. Also, give their podcast a listen, it's excellent if you are a major Disney fanatic! You can find The Magical Definition Podcast here. My next trip report will be out this Saturday April 7. See ya real soon!

Hellooo out there!!

Ok, so, my photo looks a little distorted on the page here, but if you click it I promise you'll get a much better view.

Well.. where do I begin? Hi, How ya doing? Welcome to my Blogspot. My name is Jackie (known by many as Jackie O.) and I absolutely love Walt Disney World. Growing up in the Northeast (New York to be specific), my parents took my brother and I on those mandatory once a year trips to WDW. I guess going once a year for 23 years has really left an impact. It's just always amazed me that while our normal lives are running their course, a surreal world smack dab in the center of Florida is basically running on it's own timeclock. Think about it.. Think about the thousands of people who go to work for WDW everyday, dressed for the part, in the right places and all the while (well, most of the while) with a smile on their faces. I've always been fascinated with ride technology, little known facts about the parks, how they keep things running as smoothly as possible and how so many people devote themselves to keeping this business strong and steady. It's all apart of something gigantic and how it continues to run almost endlessly is just amazing to me.

So here's a little bit more information about me. I have lived in Florida for 16 years. Although it's beautiful down here, the heat can become unbearable and the hurricanes aren't very pleasant either. I am pretty much your typical 23 year old, I enjoy spending time with friends, I love movies and music and I love meeting new people who share my love of all (or most) things Disney. I received my AA from college, briefly gave UCF a shot and then decided I needed a break. I'm looking forward to getting back to school. I'm taking up marketing and hope to eventually get a job with Disney (huge shocker there, huh?). My heritage includes italian, german, dutch, french and lithuanian. I'm a total foodie and I love to bake. My favorite color is purple and I love animals.. But that is enough about me.. let me explain why I decided to create this blog.

I absolutely love podcasts and I am addicted to my iPod. But since I figured I don't know much about podcast development, nor am I sure I have the time for one, I decided that I would make a blog about my trips to the parks and WDW/Disney Company news. I'm not only doing this to voice my opinion, but to see things from other perspectives too (that's where you guys come in!). I'm a very interactive person, so as I continue on this journey through The World of Blogging, I will be discussing topics that are thought inducing and as Lou Mongello has referred to me in the past.. "provocative."

I hope you join me in this new journey I am about to embark on. Nothing makes me happier then sharing my love of Disney with people who feel the same. Granted, we may not always agree, I will do my best to respect the opinions of everyone out there reading. My first trip report will be posted this Sunday, March 25. Hope to see you then! Ciao!
